The
National Association
of Abandoned Mined Land Programs holds a conference every year
to help member states share knowledge and coordinate mined land
reclamation efforts. Every year the conference is held in a different
location, with Steamboat
Springs hosting the 2000 conference.
To
play up the very western, fun-loving outdoor feel of Steamboat Springs,
Notchcode developed a very western, fun-loving logo for the conference.
Reminiscent of a rodeo
champion's belt buckle, it utilizes typography cut in the style
of old woodblock poster type which was used extensively throughout
the western US in the late 19th century. The red and black color
treatment grabs the reader's attention, and helps to get them excited.
The
conference logo was used on registration materials, conference programs,
stickers, postcards, and, yes, even a cast brass and silver belt
buckle which was given out to conference attendees.
